The main aim of this intervention is the regeneration and restoration of the Meia Praia dune system in Lagos, on a stretch of coastline approximately 3 km long, located between the Bensafrim Stream and the 25 de Abril neighbourhood.

According to the work plan and the financial schedule approved by the municipality, the first preparatory works will be carried out, consisting of the assembly of the construction site and cleaning of the area.

Among other activities, the work itself includes: the cleaning and removal of invasive plant species; the construction of a system of raised walkways; the placement of palisades to prevent trampling and promote the fixation of the dunes; the installation of urban furniture and support facilities; the placement of vertical signage; as well as the installation of information supports (informative and interpretative signage) aimed at promoting education for ecology and the enhancement of the dune landscape.

It is important to note that both the work and the project that supports it are the responsibility of Lagos City Council, under a contract for technical cooperation, previously signed between the municipality and the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), within the scope of the active defence of the coastline.

Representing an investment of 2,340,310.96 Euros, plus VAT, of which 75 percent is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund, the contract has an execution period of 270 days.
