Both Portugal and Spain have assured that they are firmly committed to continuing to support Ukraine in political, military, financial and humanitarian terms, at a ministerial meeting between Portugal and Spain in the 2+2 format, of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense.

The Portuguese Foreign Minister, João Gomes Cravinho, highlighted the "affinity of points of view, which enhances the bilateral relationship but also the ability to work together and influence the European Union (EU), NATO and a wider international framework".

In this context, the Minister of Defense, Helena Carreiras, said that what the two countries can do together was analysed "to reinforce and contribute to ongoing initiatives, both within the European Union and NATO, in relation to support for Ukraine".

"We had the opportunity to talk about the issue of the new military assistance mission and the way in which it could unfold", said the Portuguese Defense Minister, and shortly afterwards her Spanish counterpart, Margarita Robles, ensured that the aid "it is not only to maintain but to reinforce" namely in the field of military training.
