The number of brands investing in greener products is increasing, as is the case of Shaeco, a Portuguese brand of environmentally friendly solid shampoos.

Vera Maia is one of the founders of the brand and told The Portugal News that the brand was launched in 2020, to show her children “that it is possible to protect the planet and have a cosmopolitan life”. Currently, Shaeco assumes itself as “a brand of sustainable products, developed and produced in Portugal”.

The founder of the brand, before starting her activities at Shaeco, decided to try solid shampoo from several brands, however, the result was not appreciated by Vera Maia. In this context, she sought, in Portugal, someone who could promote and help in the development of this type of cosmetics. Currently, the brand produces, in the form of solid cosmetics, shampoos and conditioners; 2-in-1 shampoos and soap bars, as well as soaps and moisturising cream bars. All products are “developed and produced in Portugal, with vegan, cruel and plastic free ingredients”.

Innovative project

The brand consists of an innovative project in Portugal. Although other brands produce solid shampoo, the production method is different from that of Shaeco. According to Vera Maia, the other brands produce outside the country, or else it is an artisanal production and in small quantities. Shaeco produces in an industrial way that allows it to “deliver a high-quality product”, which during its production saves 80 percent of the water, when compared to the regular industry, guaranteeing the same quality to the product. Furthermore, the brand is an “entity approved and supervised by Infarmed”, being obliged to comply with “the safety and quality standards” required for cosmetic products.

Feedback

Vera Maia told The Portugal News that the feedback from consumers has been positive. Most of the criticisms refer to the performance of the products, which is very similar to traditional shampoos, for example, in terms of the amount of foam, the aroma and the portability of the products.

In the future

In 10 years, Shaeco intends to be “implemented in at least five markets”. More products will continue to be launched, “if possible, with national development and production”, says Vera Maia, who likes to think that Shaeco can be “present in anyone's home” who is concerned with environmental sustainability.

Where to buy?

Shaeco products can be purchased from the online store at www.shaecoshop.com , but all the news can be seen on the Instagram and Facebook pages at @shaecoshop.
