Dutch rider Victor Steeman, who was seriously injured on Saturday in an accident during the SuperSport300 race at the Superbike World Championship in Portimão, died on Tuesday (11 October), the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) announced.

In a statement, the FIM, together with the WorldSBK paddock and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, express their feelings at the death of the young driver, 22 years old, who spent three days in hospital in critical condition after being hit on the head by another rider following a fall off his motorcycle on the last corner of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

The SuperSport300 race of the Superbike World Championship was interrupted on the third lap, after the accident that involved, in addition to Victor Steeman, the Spaniard Gonzalez Perez, both riding a Kawasaki Ninja 400.
