According to DN, during the whole of 2019, the Judiciary Police (PJ) recorded a total of seven homicide crimes - one consummated and six attempted - committed by youth gangs in the Lisbon district. In the first half of this year alone, that number rose to 16 (between 15 attempted and one completed), revealing an exponential rise of 130% in just half the year.

The confirmation of the growing trend of violence between youth gangs is one of the focuses of concern in the district, where the total number of homicides is also climbing, when compared to the pre-covid period. In 2019, there were 106 homicide crimes - 81 consummated and 25 attempted. This year, from January to the end of June, the PJ has already registered 75, which is equivalent to 70% of the total homicides committed in 2019.
