“Operation Todos os Santos 2022”, the GNR says, has the “objective of fighting crime and reducing situations that constitute risky behaviour and road accidents, in addition to guaranteeing support to all road users”.

According to data provided by the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR), in the period of the operation “Todos os Santos” from 2019 to 2021, there were 3,252 road accidents which resulted in 19 fatalities, 81 serious injuries and 1,030 minor injuries.

During the same period, the districts with the highest recorded road accidents were Porto, followed by Faro, Aveiro, Braga, Lisbon, Setúbal and Santarém.

The GNR also recommends the correct use of seat belts and child restraint systems, as well as not using mobile phones while driving, adapting speed to the type of road and traffic conditions and not drinking alcoholic beverages or consuming psychotropic substances.
