Revolut has announced that it has reached the level of one million customers in Portugal, information that was shared during the Web Summit. Cited in a statement, the founder of the digital bank, Nikolay Storonsky, says that “almost 10% of Portuguese people have a Revolut account”.

“After the launch of Banco Revolut in Portugal, in December 2021, the company recorded remarkable growth during 2022, doubling the number of customers in this market during the first ten months of the year”, advances the company.

Fintech “also registered an increase in the use that Portuguese customers make of its services during the last year”, he added. Card payments increased by “more than 50%” compared to 2021, while “cross-currency” transactions (involving two currencies, such as the euro and the dollar) grew by 58%.

Finally, Revolut states that, “with more than 1,170 employees in the country, Portugal is strengthening its positioning as a strategic market for the company”.

“Portugal is the second largest country in terms of Revolut employees, behind only the United Kingdom, where the company is based. The Matosinhos office continues to be one of the largest technology centres for the company, which is also one of the largest employers in the region”, concludes Revolut.
