What is the perfect body? The perfect body shape is a concept that society creates around what is beautiful. Although these role models are constantly changing, there is something that never changes: the way we feel when we look at the mirror and the confidence that comes with it.

In this sense, Up Clinic has joined its expertise and technology for which they are well known for in Lisbon and came to the Algarve to provide the best of plastic surgery. This is all made easier with the facilities of the HPA Health Group and a brilliant team based in the Algarve.

Liposculpture

This is a medical-surgical treatment aimed at improving localised fat and the shape of the body. With a necessary recovery period, in which patients start physiotherapy and lymphatic drainage massage - on the same day of the operation - it is a procedure that can be done at any age with great results.

However, as we get older and the more weight fluctuations patients have had and the more sagging their skin has, the less effective the surgery will be. So, it may be necessary to combine liposculpture with skin reduction, depending upon the quality of the skin.

“As the years go by, liposculptures alone are not enough and we often have to combine liposculptures with skin removal, either on the thighs or the abdomen”, said Dr Tiago Baptista Fernandes, Clinical Coordinator of UP HPA.

Tummy tuck

Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a plastic surgery that helps patients to get the belly they deserve. This surgery is particularly chosen by women aged 30 to 40 years old who have already been pregnant.

"A tummy tuck corrects two main things, the pulling away of the muscles after pregnancy. The child is born, the child grows and the muscles go away and don't go back to their initial position. If the patient doesn't have excess fat, the first objective of this surgery is to tighten the muscles and reconstruct them. The second objective is to remove the excess skin. The third goal is to remove stretch marks", he said.

On the other hand, if the patient has excess fat, we associate it with a liposculpture. “In most cases, the liposculpture is done on the belly and on the back because we cannot guarantee a good result on the front with a bad result on the back. It doesn't make sense. We have to do both together, which is called, a lipoabdominoplasty”.

Arms

Apart from the belly, doctors have been watching a big increase in terms of arm surgery. "This is a very sought-after area because the volume in the arms ends up giving women added frustration, from the age of 50 onwards, because that area of the body is not covered while the chest and the stomach are hidden", Dr. Tiago told me.

Within this procedure, the lipolaser and radiofrequency, are two minimally invasive medical techniques that deliver heat to the tissues allowing them to shrink. These procedures can be performed with local anaesthesia.
