According to ACAP - Associação Automóvel de Portugal: "In 2022, 185,291 new vehicles were put into circulation, which represented a decrease of 30.8% compared to 2019, despite the comparison with 2021 showing a slight increase of 2.8%".

Taking into account only the month of December 2022, 18,356 motor vehicles were registered by the legal representatives of the brand operating in Portugal, 12.4% more compared to December 2021 and 19.1% less compared to December 2019.

By type, from January to December, registrations of light passenger vehicles totalled 156,250, an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period of the previous year and a decrease of 30.2% compared to 2019.

In December, 14,698 new passenger cars were registered in Portugal, an increase of 16.6% compared to the same month in the previous year and a drop of 17.1% compared to the same month of 2019.

Data show that, from January to December, 40.5% of new passenger vehicles registered were powered by other types of energy, namely electric and hybrid.

Of these, 15.4% were hybrid vehicles (HEV), 11.4% were electric (BEV) and 10.3% were plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).

As for light goods vehicles, in accumulated terms, the market totalled 23,541 units, down 18.2% compared to 2021 and 38.8% compared to 2019.

The light goods market recorded, in December 2022, a negative evolution of 7.0% compared to December 2021, to 3,052 registered units and 32.8% compared to the same month of 2019.
