CTT – Correios de Portugal has announced that they have joined the Turkish embassy in a solidarity campaign to collect goods to help victims of the earthquake in the country. The campaign starts February 15th and runs until February 22nd.

"People who are interested in helping just have to go to one of the CTT Stores in Mainland Portugal and deliver their donation. CTT is responsible for sending donations to the embassy, which in turn will deliver them on the ground".

"Necessary and urgent goods, which must be new and suitable for the weather conditions, are: winter tents, blankets, sleeping bags, and very warm clothes, such as coats and pyjamas".

For "better management of donations on the ground", donations "must be delivered in boxes", each of which will have a label - which can be printed or requested at any of the CTT Stores - describing the goods it contains.

More than seven million children were affected by the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6, UNICEF said today, fearing thousands of them may have died.

The earthquakes occurred in two different places in southeastern Turkey, close to the border with Syria, having reached magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, with strong aftershocks, one of which was 6.0.
