Recent research from travel app Expedia, based on a survey of 4,000 U.S. travellers, revealed the busy festive season prompted many Americans, one of Portugal’s fastest-growing source markets, to plan a "nothing-cation” in January, to recover from the hectic pace of the holidays.

The Algarve was included on a shortlist of seven idyllic destinations compiled by Expedia’s travel experts that were recommended for being “far from the crowds and perfect for days spent doing a whole lot of nothing”.

The Algarve was listed alongside exotic locations including Hawaii, Costa Rica, Fiji, the Caribbean and Thailand and was the only European location on the list.

In a press release, Melanie Fish, head of Expedia Group brands public relations, said: "There's a time and place for an action-packed vacation itinerary, but our data shows the first trip after the hectic holiday season calls for a more relaxed agenda.

"For most travellers, getting the most out of their next vacation means setting aside dedicated time for nothing”, she added.

With the beautiful spring weather just around the corner, the quieter months before summer are a perfect time to visit the Algarve for those looking to escape the crowds.

As one of the Algarve’s premier destinations, Quinta do Lago, in the heart of the region’s so-called ‘Golden Triangle’, is a seductive spot for a ‘nothing-cation’ – and a stay at the Wyndham Grand Algarve, the only Wyndham Grand on the Iberian Peninsula, affords the proverbial cherry on top.

General Manager Alexandre Maia de Carvalho said: “Quinta do Lago is the doorway to exceptional experiences and the Wyndham Grand Algarve is the perfect spot for doing as much or as little as visitors like.

“There is a vast range of world-class facilities on the doorstep, but guests don’t even have to venture beyond the resort if they don’t want to. The beautiful natural surroundings of the Ria Formosa create the perfect ambience for complete rest and relaxation, while our on-site spa, pools and fine-dining add a touch of luxury to any stay. We aim to create lifelong memories in all our residents and guests.”

And for those who would like to stay even longer, the Wyndham Grand Algarve residences offer the opportunity to invest in a little slice of Algarve paradise.
