The IPMA issued a yellow warning for the district of Leiria due to the forecast of snowfall above 600/800 metres of altitude between 3:00pm today and 3:00pm on Saturday.

Previously, the IPMA had already issued a yellow warning for the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Guarda and Vila Real until 10:00 am on Saturday due to the persistence of low minimum temperatures.

These four districts are also under yellow warning until 15:00 on Saturday due to the forecast of snowfall above 600/800 metres.

The districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Braga will be under a yellow warning between 15:00 today and 15:00 on Saturday due to snowfall above 600/800 metres.

The IPMA predicts at least until the weekend cold weather, with a drop in the maximum temperature of between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius due to an air mass with polar origin.

Strong wind is also forecast, especially on the coast and in the highlands, with more frequent periods of rain on Friday, which may be accompanied by thunder and hail, wind and ice formation and frost in the interior of the country.

Due to IPMA predictions, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) issued a warning to the population of the risks of poisoning by inhaling gases due to inadequate ventilation and fires in homes resulting from the misuse of fireplaces.
