The origins of the World Day of Prayer date back to the 19th century when Christian women initiated a variety of cooperative activities in support of women’s involvement in mission, at home and abroad. It is from such roots as these that World Day of Prayer has taken its present shape to become a worldwide women led global ecumenical movement of Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action.

Today the World Day of Prayer is celebrated in over 120 Countries.

On Friday 3rd March 2023 World Day of Prayer Services will begin in Samoa and travel around the world – through Asia, Africa, Middle East, Europe and Americas before finishing in American Samoa some 38 hours later.

Each year the service is prepared and written by a different Country and in 2023 it is the turn of the women of Taiwan. They have chosen the theme:

“I have heard about your faith”

The Island of Taiwan is rich in natural resources and ethnically diverse, and the Service they have developed shares in the issues they face, both geographically, politically, socially and their hopes for the future.
