The strike of non-teachers was convened by the National Federation of Public and Social Workers' Unions, which is also organising a march between Jardim da Estrela, in Lisbon, and the Ministry of Education, with the presence of the CGTP general secretary.

For teachers, the two-day strike is called by a platform of nine union organisations continues, including the national federations of Teachers (Fenprof) and Education (FNE), the most representative of the sector.

Today, school teachers in the districts of Leiria to the south are on strike.

Schools will, however, have to ensure minimum services, decreed on Monday by the arbitral tribunal, which considered that this stoppage of teachers "cannot be seen just as a one-day strike that will only cause the usual and legitimate disorders that any strike always causes", but rather as "one more strike in a sum of strikes that, as a whole, already threaten to jeopardise the right to education".

According to the decision, teachers must guarantee three hours of classes in pre-school and 1st cycle, as well as three daily teaching periods per class in 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary education, in order to guarantee, weekly, the coverage of the different disciplines.
