The Minister of Internal Affairs, José Luís Carneiro, has announced a slight increase in general crime in 2022, compared to 2019, however, serious crime has decreased by 7%.

“If we compare the general crime figures [from 2022] with 2019, we see that there is a slight increase of 2.4%. But, we found that there is a decrease of more than 7% in serious crime”, he revealed.
José Luís Carneiro shared with journalists some of the figures from the Annual Internal Security Report (RASI ) of 2022, which will be made known next week.
“Serious crime reduced more than 7% and there were 12% fewer robberies and thefts compared to 2019”, he added.
