The projects for future hotel units involve a global investment of around €37.8 million, said a source from the Canadian group.

Located next to Rossio de São Brás, at the entrance to the historic centre of the Alentejo city, the Hilton Garden Inn Évora is in the “final phase of construction and final finishes” and is expected to open its doors in May this year, according to the group.

With an investment of €21 million, this four-star hotel will create 62 direct jobs in the operation phase, while the construction phase involved 80 jobs.

According to the group, the Hilton Garden Inn Évora will have 130 rooms, an outdoor swimming pool on the roof, bar, terrace, restaurant, gym and a meeting room with capacity for 130 people.

Holiday Inn Express

The other hotel that the Canadian group is building in Évora results from the rehabilitation and adaptation of a building that was vacant, located in the Portas de Avis area, close to the wall and the Roman Temple.

The three-star Holiday Inn Express Évora, the result of an investment of €6.8 million, is in the “advanced construction phase” and its opening is scheduled for the “second quarter of 2024”.

“Around 50 jobs were created during construction and it will create 36 permanent jobs during its operation”, said the group.

The unit will have 76 rooms, an outdoor pool, restaurant, bar and meeting room.

These two hotels in Évora will be the first of the Mercan Group in the Alentejo, which will build another four-star hotel on Praia da Costa de Santo André, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém, scheduled to open in the summer of 2024.

The Mercan Properties Group develops real estate projects in the field of tourism in Portugal and currently has 22 projects in the country, located in Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos, Lisbon, Amarante, Évora, Beja, Vila Nova de Santo André and the Algarve.
