Until! APAA’s Jenny, Jane and Anita visiting Animal Rescue Algarve’s beautiful premises outside Loulé were in agreement, The answer lay in an industrial machine. One that could cope with blankets, hairy ones, cushions, canine and feline bedding.

Sid Richardson ARA’s founder, and his team, were more than happy when Jenny suggested a donation. Voila! As they say. Job done. Happy pre-Easter bunnies. Well almost. Someone has to load and unload it!

Like abandoned animals. Dogs, mainly. Someone has to take on the load, quite a hefty one, medical care, feeding, and nurturing. Finding them a new home. APAA (Association for Protection of Animals Algarve) does this all the time. As do the many shelters around the Algarve.

‘Here to help’ happens to be APAA’s motto. Their shelter days are in the past, Nowadays, their concentration is on the reduction of animals roaming the streets, re-populating unnecessarily. As do cats. Wherever possible they are trapped, out of necessity and transferred to a colony. Where they can be fed, looked after and SNiP’d. With the help of many people within their communities, they survive on the great-hearted generous people.

APAA’s events and ‘Pop-Ups’ do just that, set up a shop within the community so people can literally pop in, browse at their leisure, and stop for a drink, chat, or meal with friends. ‘Pop-Up’ date for diary a sure thing is Sunday, May 21st loaded tables with antiques, classics, and vintage specials. Snack Bar Manu in Figueira 11-2pm with a special meat & fish dish of the day. Call direct Manuela +351 961 043 053 (aka Pescador). APAA’s two charity shops in Alvor and Silves, offer designer goods, hand-made, quirky stuff along with the traditional. Books, ornaments. They have it all.

APAA’s next event to raise funds for their Spaying & Neutering Programme campaign (SNiP), amongst other causes for "pawses", will be at Anita’s country garden north of Portimão. She’s signed up with ARA’s ‘Legacy For Pets’ Book now, for a spectacular ‘Kings & Queens’ buffet lunch and drinks €20. Dress up or down. It’s up to you!
