We are a group of artists and art students working in Vale Judeu. We use the Cafe and beautiful gardens of the International Evangelical Church as our base but sometimes go into Faro or Alte, for example, for painting in plain air.

Some of us are tutored by Barbara Jane Banks, artist and art teacher, in all the main mediums. Each of us is on our own exciting journey whether beginner or professional and enjoy experimenting, bouncing our discoveries and ideas off each other and learning new techniques to advance our journey.

The venue and time of year prompted us to hold the exhibition in the open air. There are covered terraces and walled gardens, to use as a backdrop to the colourful and varied paintings. Many of the works are for sale and there are also sketchbooks and folders of drawings and paintings which show a little of the creative processes that go into making art.

The paintings being exhibited are of a variety of subjects or are semi-abstract and in all main mediums. To allow for more of our work to be viewed, we have a loop running on the large screen in the café. As we are taking turns to man the exhibition, it’s possible to talk to some of the artists and find out more about art lessons, what inspires us to paint and the history of the church and tropical gardens and ponds at Vale Judeu.
