"Portugal has become the world's main 'hubs' and that is what we want to do here in Rio as well," said Eduardo Paes, in Rio de Janeiro, in a session that received more than a hundred authorities and 'startups' at the event "Web Summit Rio Portuguese Delegation Pre-Conference Session".


At the session that served as a presentation of 25 'startups' that will participate in Web Summit Rio, from Monday until Thursday, Eduardo Paes assured that Portugal was the inspiration to take the Web Summit to Rio de Janeiro.


The official also said that the events, both in Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon, are "complementary".


"It is an opportunity for Portugal, just as we see the Web Summit in Lisbon as an opportunity for Brazil," he said.


The event preceding the Web Summit was attended by Portugal's secretary of state for internationalisation, Bernardo Ivo Cruz, Portugal's consul-general in Rio de Janeiro, Gabriela Soares, Rio de Janeiro's secretary for economic development and innovation, Francisco Bulhões, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, the president of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rio de Janeiro, António Fiúza, among others.


Portugal will be represented by 25 startups, linked to areas such as software, education or artificial intelligence.


BlockBee, Blue Insight Technologies, Deeploy. me, Dizconto, Enline, Frontfiles, Go Beesiness, Hoopers, IDE Social Hub, Infinite Foundry, ITERCARE, Knok Healthcare, LEADZAI, Mentorise, Modatta and Move, as well as My Data Manager, MyCareforce, ndBIM, Neroes, Sensei, SheerME, Swood, Vawlt Technologies and Wallstreeters will be the Portuguese representatives, who on the first day intend to meet with local stakeholders, with several sessions scheduled on legal and fiscal processes and business opportunities.


The co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, Ayọ Tometi, the president of Banco do Brasil, Tarciana Medeiros, top officials of Brazilian banks and companies, the executive president of the Onlyfans platform, Amrapali Gan, and the prime minister of Cabo Verde, José Ulisses Correia e Silva, will join the more than 300 speakers, about 900 startups, investors and journalists from over 100 countries, at a summit where topics such as technology, society, artificial intelligence, climate change, among others, will be discussed.
