Forbes magazine has published the 2023 edition of the list of the best paid athletes in the world, with Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo, creeping back up to the top position for the first time since 2017.

The publication estimates that the 38-year-old player will earn $46 million - €41.8 million - in wages, at Al Nassr, and $90 million - €81.8 million - in sponsorships, making a total of $136 million - €123.6 million.

Next on the list is footballing rival Lionel Messi (130 million dollars, i.e. 118.2 million euros) and Kylian Mbappé (120 million dollars, ie 109.1 million euros). In fourth place it is LeBron James, followed by boxer Canelo Álvarez, then golfers Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson.
