This is a great opportunity to watch from the beach a high level of surfing and to witness how a new generation is prepared for the toughest challenges nationally and internationally.

The heats for the initial rounds are already available to preview, the 1st day of the trial starting at 8am on Saturday on Arda Beach.

After the victories achieved in the first stage, Martim Nunes (current ProJunior national champion) and Gabriela Dinis are leading the national ranking in the competition that involves three stages over the year. “It’s good to be in first after winning a championship. It always gives you extra confidence and motivation, but it’s still just one more stage and it won’t be any different because I won the last one and am top on my ranking,” Nunes had to say. “I’ll do what I’ve been doing, giving my all every time. I’ve never been to Viana do Castelo. I hope to have fun and for there to be good waves.”

Gabriela Dinis, current leader of the women’s category, has good memories of the venue. “It’s where I became the Sub-16 national champion in 2019. I remember we caught some good waves that championship and I hope this year it’s the same.”

Ricardo Rego, from the Viana do Castelo council, explains the municipality’s satisfaction with the event: “One of the government’s strategies has been invest in nautical sports, and this competition stands to cement this municipality in this area, specifically surf. The excellent natural conditions summed with the organisational capacity of Viana Surf Club, with the fact Viana do Castelo is the European City of Sport and has the presidency of the Global Surf City Network can make this stage a landmark in the national competitive program.”
