In a note, the Regional Secretariat for Social Inclusion and Citizenship of Madeira revealed that Madeira had, in April, 4,055 fewer unemployed people compared to the same month of 2022.

According to the Regional Government, at the end of April 2023, 9,025 unemployed people were registered at the Madeira Employment Institute (IEM), which corresponds to a 4.5% decrease in enrolments compared to last March (-426 enrolments).

Citing the figures released by the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) for the month of April, the Regional Secretariat for Social Inclusion and Citizenship said that “Madeira clearly stands out from the other regions, showing the greatest reduction (-31. 0%) year-on-year, above the Algarve (-16.6%) and the Azores (-14.3%)”.

In the same document, it can be read that, in April, “according to the latest indicator provided by the IEFP, the region [Madeira] recorded the 3rd largest decline in the country, positioning itself above the national average (-3.5%) ”.

“This is the lowest value recorded since 2009 and marks a consolidated trajectory in the indicators referring to Madeira”, concluded the Regional Secretariat for Social Inclusion and Citizenship.
