“The investment made by investors residing in European countries stood out”. Of the 630 million euros in foreign direct investment in national territory, more than 350 million concern European investors, that is, more than half of the total, according to BdP data and reported by ECO.

In cumulative terms, at the end of the first quarter of this year, the stock of foreign direct investment in Portugal (FDI) reached 172 billion euros, i.e., more than double the stock of direct investment in Portugal abroad (FDI), which totalled 63 billion euros, points out the entity led by Mário Centeno.

According to the BdP, "stocks have increased since 2008", albeit at different rates: foreign direct investment in Portugal "more than doubled between 2008 and the first quarter of 2023", while Portugal's direct investment abroad "grew 18%”.
