"We are going to launch, for the first time, for Lisbon, Porto and for the beaches with the greatest influx, special security and proximity policing programs, which already form part of our Integrated Urban Security Strategy, and these plans will be developed similarly to the Algarve Seguro program", said José Luís Carneiro in Vila Nova de Gaia, in the district of Porto.

The minister was speaking at the Avintes Parish Council, on the sidelines of the signing of an inter-administrative contract for the requalification of the local GNR Territorial Post, and characterised the Algarve security program as "a good experience of cooperation between all security forces and services".

"Therefore, we are going to extend this experience to other regions of the country: to Greater Porto, Greater Lisbon and also to the beaches that have greater pressure, namely with the holding of end-of-day parties, in the late afternoon, which cause the influx of many visitors", he justified, considering that, sometimes, "there are behaviours and attitudes that require some special attention on the part of the security forces".

Asked about the date for the program to start operating in the new regions, José Luís Carneiro indicated that he would like to have the program presented in mid-June.
