Today marks the fourth day of strikes by easyJet cabin crew, who accuse the company of "precariousness and discrimination" of workers in comparison to those from other countries.

“Like the other strike days, adherence is 100%. The flights had already been previously cancelled by the company at the time of our prior notice of the strike and minimum services enacted”, the president of the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) told Lusa.

According to Ricardo Penarroias, this Thursday only minimal services are being carried out in Lisbon and Porto.

“In Faro, there are no flights, the flights are all cancelled”, he added, stating that he still does not have information on the number of flights cancelled this Thursday.

According to the president of SNPVAC, the company assumed that the impact of the strike would be 100% and, therefore, cancelled flights in advance.

“As for the negotiations, we are still at an impasse. The company has a posture that we don't quite understand. Faced with the strike notice, the company decided that it does not want to sit at the table with us during the strike period,” he said.

On May 11, in a statement, SNPVAC said that easyJet continues to consider the crew of Portuguese bases "minor workers", perpetuating their "precariousness and discrimination against colleagues from other countries".

According to the union, "the atmosphere of tension and displeasure and the long impasse in the resolution of the various labour disputes led the SNPVAC to present a strike notice" for the 26th, 28th and 30th of May and the 1st and 3rd of June.

During the three days of strikes which have already taken place, the union and the carrier have presented very different numbers, with easyJet referring to adhesions of 55%, 70% 60% and the union structure pointing to 100%.

The stoppage covers "all flights carried out by easyJet", as well as "other services to which cabin crew members are assigned", whose "presentation hours occur in national territory starting at 00:01 and ending at 24:00 on each of the days".
