"We can never give up on creating more wealth, more equality, more cohesion, distributing this wealth more fairly", declared Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in his traditional speech at the military ceremony commemorating the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which takes place today in Peso da Régua, district of Vila Real.

Only in this way, continued the head of state, will Portugal be able to continue to have its "world projection", its "national purpose".

"It is our vocation always: to build bridges, to be a platform between oceans, continents, cultures and peoples. There are, and will be, others who are and will be richer than us, more cohesive than us, but with languages that few know , incapable of understanding the world, of touching it and influencing it, even the world that is right outside their door", he said.
