The operation should take place by the end of the third quarter, according to a report by Jornal Económico.
In the authorities' sights will be the most recent Local Accommodation units, those that have delivered a VAT return in arrears and those that have very low billing values and are, as a rule, on VAT credit. Inspectors will be on the lookout for potential tax evasion in the sector, given the dozens of complaints that have reached the Tax Authorities and the Public Prosecutor's Office with evidence of non-invoicing and improper invoicing.
A source from the tax administration adds that the objective is to prevent the development of an informal economy and to raise awareness among economic operators.
In 2017, an inspection operation was carried out on 3,750 Local Accommodation establishments.
