The man was about 80 years old and the causes of death are still “unknown”, after the authorities received an alert that the owner of the vessel, a British national, had not been seen for some time, said AMN in a statement.

The same source explained that the alert reached the authorities at 5:30 pm and elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police, the Volunteer Firefighters of Lagos and the Judiciary Police, which are now responsible for the investigation to determine the causes and circumstances under which the death occurred.

The rescue device also included elements of the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) of the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM), which ended up declaring the death on the spot, AMN said, clarifying that, when they boarded the vessel, “the members of the Maritime Police found that the man was unconscious inside the sailboat” and “did not show vital signs”.

“The Public Prosecutor's Office was contacted, and the body was subsequently transported by the elements of the Volunteer Firefighters of Lagos to the Medical-Legal Office of Portimão”.
