This support was approved last week by the Council of Ministers, with the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, specifying that it is aimed at families “in a more vulnerable situation” and aims to mitigate the impact of price increases in their budgets.

The schedule approved by the Government indicates that the 240 euros will be paid this Friday to those who have their IBAN registered with Social Security, followed by postal order in other situations.

The support will thus reach both beneficiaries of the social electricity tariff who have received support in the second phase and families who are beneficiaries of minimum social benefits by reference to the month of November 2022, for a total of 1.037 million households.

This support comes in addition to the two extraordinary benefits of 60 euros, paid in April and July, to families benefiting from the social electricity tariff or minimum social benefits, and to the 125 euros allocated in October to non-pensioned adults with incomes below 2,700 gross euros.

According to Ana Mendes Godinho, the 240 euros were calculated based on the impact of rising prices on a basic food basket of a typical family (composed of three people).
