"Two administrative proceedings were initiated for serious violation of consumer rights and the products on display were seized, considering the impossibility of the consumer making an informed choice of the product they were purchasing", according to a statement from ASAE.

The value of the seizure is estimated at 180,000 euros and the "suspension of activity of the two establishments" was determined "until legality is restored".

Questioned by Lusa, an official ASAE source said that the operation took place in Varziela, in the municipality of Vila do Conde.

The authority said today that it "carried out a supervisory action aimed at guaranteeing consumer information rights" in a municipality in Greater Porto.

According to ASAE, two supermarkets "retailed food products without guaranteeing the consumer's rights to information", since "in a universe of more than 1,500 product references in each establishment, the overwhelming majority of them did not have any labelling in Portuguese".
