Once again, The Algarveans have been invited to participate in Lagoa’s annual Comedy Festival, HUMORFEST, and the cast are learning their lines for two one-act plays: Last Tango in Little Grimley and Lockdown in Little Grimley, a comedy double bill by David Tristram and directed by Angela Theobold.

The Little Grimley comedies centre on a struggling thespian group headed by self-appointed actor/director/writer Gordon, played by Frank Remiatte, who is determined to keep the Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society going despite its dwindling numbers. Gordon believes a surefire way to increase audiences is to lure them in with sex; subsequently, he has written a play that promises more sex than it will probably deliver. Assisted by petulant leading actress Margaret, (Val Lefrere), set builder Bernard, (Alan Smith), and inept thespian but keen singer Joyce, (Tracey Christiansen), they start rehearsing Last Tango. Chaos ensues with hilarious results. The second play Lockdown in Little Grimley reveals the foursome’s efforts to stage a hospital drama during the COVID pandemic, with equally comic consequences.

No stranger to comedy herself having appeared in many productions, director Angela Theobold will ensure that the acerbic wit of David Tristram metamorphoses into some hugely funny one-liners delivered with perfect precision by her cast.
