Civil Protection recorded between 9.00 pm on 15 December and 8 am today, 55 occurrences related to fallen trees and small floods due to wind and heavy rain.

The events related to the fall of trees and small floods were recorded mainly in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Lisbon and Porto, stated Commander Carlos Pereira, of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).

“The district with the most occurrences was Viana do Castelo with 17 situations which were mainly related to falling trees due to the strong winds. Then we also registered eight in Lisbon and seven in Porto, also due to trees falling and small floods”, he said.

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) also announced that the districts of Évora, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Castelo are also under a yellow weather warning for the same reason, until 12:00 of 16 December.

The districts of Castelo Branco and Guarda are also under a yellow warning because of snowfall above the 1,800 metres, with between 4cm and 8cm expected to fall until 12:00 of 16 December.
