Nightlife spaces have been closed permanently since March 2020 due to the pandemic and could reopen in October, when authorities estimate that 85% of the Portuguese population has full vaccination against Covid-19, said António Costa.

The prime minister was speaking at the end of today's Council of Ministers, which approved three new phases of lifting the restrictions in force because of the pandemic and of the gradual resumption of some activities, with the first phase on 1 August (57% vaccinated population ), the second on 5 September (71%) and the last in October (85%).

"At this stage it will then be possible for bars and clubs to reopen," said António Costa, who added that customers should present their digital certificates and tests to enter.
