The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, who considered that the end of the preparatory phase, before the start of the modernisation of the line, is “a great victory for the Algarve and for the national railway”.

“The country, in terms of railways, is making a big investment”, said the minister, assuring that the Government will “continue to work” to combat the decades of delay in the sector.

Pedro Nuno Santos defended “a new cycle of investments” in the development and updating of the railway in Portugal and the importance of electric trains as collective transport “with evident gains”, especially environmental ones.
