According to a joint assessment by the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), released today, between 21 and 27 June, 2,419 accidents were recorded, resulting in 10 fatalities, 48 serious injuries and 719 mild injured.

Compared to the same period in 2021, there were 420 more accidents, two more fatalities, eight more serious injuries and 78 more minor injuries.

Of the 10 fatalities, nine were males, were aged between 9 and 85 years.

According to the balance sheet, the nine accidents with fatalities occurred in the districts of Vila Real, Porto, Aveiro, Viseu, Coimbra, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja and Faro.

Inspections

During the operations of the security forces, they inspected 49,537 vehicles, with a total of 12,642 infractions recorded, of which 722 related to non-use or incorrect use of safety devices.

The campaign, included in the 2022 National Inspection Plan, was disseminated across digital media, with five ANSR awareness raising actions being carried out simultaneously with the inspection operations under the responsibility of the GNR and PSP, in the localities of Lisbon, Albufeira, Beja, Portalegre and Seixal.

The “Cinto-me Vivo” campaign aimed to alert drivers and passengers to the importance of always using safety devices correctly.
