According to Airbnb, the destinations in Portugal that buck the trend of traditional destinations and emerged as unexpected hot spots for the summer are located in the interior of the country.

Sul, in the district of Viseu, has emerged as one of the most desired destinations after showing the highest growth in searches made by Portuguese guests in the first half of 2022.

Among the other non-traditional summer destinations in the interior, Lousã (Coimbra), Alqueva (Évora) and Grândola (Setúbal) stand out, which “showed exponential growth”.

“The emergence of these lesser-known destinations as unexpected new 'hotspots' shows how Airbnb is helping to help redistribute tourism and create new economic opportunities for hosts, at a time when rising inflation has taken a toll on personal finances,” mentions the company in a statement.
