“In March 2023, the number of deaths was 10,506, a figure lower than that recorded in February 2023 (326 fewer deaths; -3.0%) and in March 2022 (322 fewer deaths; -3.0%)”.

In the same month, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 rose to 196 (five more than in February 2023), representing 1.9% of total deaths.

Compared to March 2022, there was a reduction of 453 deaths due to covid-19, adds INE.

With regard to births, INE reports 6,179 live births in February this year, 0.9% less than in February 2022 (6,234).

“The total number of live births registered in the first two months of 2023 (13,356) was higher than that seen in the same period of 2022 (12,627), representing over 729 live births (+5.8%)”, says the institute.

In February, the natural balance (difference between the number of live births and deaths) was -4,641, "worsening in relation to the same month of 2022, when the value of -4,420 was recorded".

In the first two months of 2023, the accumulated value of the natural balance was -9,377, showing an improvement compared to that observed in the same period of 2022 (-9,764).

In February 2023, 1,555 weddings were celebrated, an increase of 11.0% compared to the number of weddings held in February 2022 (154 more). In the first two months of 2023, 3,211 weddings were celebrated, 664 more (+26.1%) than in the same period of 2022.
