André Gomes, 42 years old, is the current director of the Center for Promotion, Animation and Tourist Information of the RTA, a position he has held since September 2018.

The elections for the executive committee and for the board of the General Assembly of the RTA took place at the headquarters of the regional entity, in Faro, and resulted in the election of André Gomes for the 2023-2028 term.

André Gomes will succeed João Fernandes, who has led the organisation since 2018, as chairman of the executive committee.

In February, João Fernandes told Lusa that he would not run for a second term due to legislation that regulates the limitation of terms in Regional Tourism Entities.

For the new term of office of the governing bodies of the RTA, Fátima Catarina, current vice-president of the executive committee, and the director of Faro Airport, Alberto Mota Borges, were elected to the executive body.

This body will also include the mayor of São Brás de Alportel, Vítor Guerreiro, a member co-opted as representative of the municipalities, and the president of Algarve Golf – Associação Regional de Golfe do Sul, José Matias, a member co-opted as representative of private entities with interest in the development and enhancement of tourism participating in the RTA.

The president of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA), Hélder Martins, was re-elected president of the Board of the General Assembly of the RTA on the same list, while the president of the Portuguese Association of Recreational Ports (APPR), Isolete Correia, was re-elected secretary.
