According to the mayor of Albufeira, José Carlos Rolo, the updates have already been carried out in the marina area, after about three months of work, and within a month the replacement of the central divider from Avenida dos Descobrimentos to the roundabout will be completed.

“We are going to have a great saving of water with a great reduction in consumption and also in waste”, said José Carlos Rolo.

According to the mayor of the district of Faro, "In a few weeks an indicative 'placard' will be put up with water savings, so that people can know the result of this action".

This information will be posted at the entrance to Albufeira, on the avenue that comes from Ferreiras, he added.

Swimming pools closed

José Carlos Rolo also mentioned that other water-saving measures are being taken, most of them already announced at the level of the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL), such as the closure of municipal swimming pools in August.

In early June, the 16 municipalities in the Algarve announced that they would take measures, as they had already done in 2022 so that urban water consumption does not exceed 2019 levels.

Municipal water consumption represents between 5 and 10% of consumption, with private individuals responsible for 90% of total urban consumption.

The Algarve councils decided in 2022 to close public municipal swimming pools during the month of August, a measure that was extended until the end of September, with the exception of swimming pools open in the more inland territories.
