The small town of Sant Joan, population of 2000, in the centre of Mallorca, has just ended a 30-year era for its politics and elected a 52-year-old British teacher named Richard Thompson.

Richard moved there 9 years ago and isn’t completely fluent in Catalan, but with the help of a team of 30 locals he’s managed to convince the populace to vote for him.
