In a statement, the Vila do Bispo City Council, in the district of Faro, states that it is “the biggest event dedicated to birds and nature in our country” with “hundreds of people” travelling to Sagres “to discover the nature of the region and, in particular, the autumn migration of birds”.

A source from the local authority involved in organizing the initiative told the Lusa agency that, in previous years, between 1,000 and 1,500 people attended the festival.

In its 14th edition, the festival program includes more than 200 activities, many of them free, from boat trips to observe birds, dolphins, caves and cliffs, to photography, painting and illustration workshops, as well as kayaking trips.

The municipality states that to participate, simply go to Forte do Beliche, in Sagres, and sign up for the intended activities to obtain the participant bracelet.

The bracelet, in addition to entry to the activities, will entitle you to free entry to the Fortaleza de Sagres and Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe and also to discounts at the initiative's partners, such as restaurants and accommodation.

The Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival is organized by the Vila do Bispo City Council, in partnership with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the environmental association Almargem.
