The proposal received a favourable vote from the deputies of the independent movement, PSD, Chega and PAN, and a vote against from the PS, CDU and BE.

For the CDU, deputy Francisco Calheiros argued that the revocation of the regulation will create "more confusion and chaos" in the city, considering that, "despite being insufficient", the regulation was “better than nothing”.

Deputy Pedro Faria, from BE, also stated that the repeal "will only serve to make the real estate business even more rampant" in the city, highlighting that the party voted against the creation of the regulation, "not because of its nature", but because it "contains too many exceptions.”

In response, the mayor of Porto, the independent Rui Moreira, criticised the position taken by the two parties, calling on the CDU to have the courage to propose another regulation and to the BE to suggest itself so that the regulation of the sector once again becomes a competence of the municipalities.

"What the law did was deregulate and they seem surprised by us, in relation to a regulation that they didn't like, but which despite everything, it is better than nothing,", said Rui Moreira, saying expect, "whatever the future Government of the nation", that the powers will once again be assumed by local authorities.

Social-democratic deputy Silvia Soares argued that with the Mais Habitação program "wants to kill Local Accommodation", "attack small and medium-sized entrepreneurs" and "weaken a fundamental area" for the national economy and tourism.

For Chega, the sole deputy Jerónimo Fernandes argued that the management of these powers should be the responsibility of the local authority.

The Local Accommodation regulation came into force on May 4th and differentiated areas of sustainable growth and areas of containment, based on the urban pressure of each parish, based on the number of dwellings available for permanent housing or long-term rental and the establishments available for Local Accommodation.

The regulation was approved, by majority, both in the executive and in the Municipal Assembly of Porto.
