Ilha Deserta, where Barreta beach is located, not only offers extensive sand and the tranquillity of a less-crowded beach, but also boasts the warmest water in Portugal.

According to Magg, Barreta beach is the best kept secret when it comes to water temperature. While destinations like Praia da Rocha and Comporta are better known, Ilha Deserta offers a unique experience, away from the crowds.

Located in the Ria Formosa, Ilha Deserta is one of the five barrier islands in the Algarve, along with Culatra, Armona, Tavira and Cacela. Approximately 11 kilometres long, this uninhabited island is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

Access to Praia da Barreta is by boat, departing from Cais da Porta Nova, Faro. Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed by expansive sand and waters whose temperature is more inviting compared to other beaches along the Portuguese coast.
