“The LIFE LUPI LYNX project aims to improve the social and ecological conditions that allow the recovery of these two threatened species of Portuguese fauna”, according to Rewilding Portugal, the coordinating entity of the program that brings together seven Portuguese and two Spanish entities.

The intention is to promote measures, south of the Douro River, in areas where the two species are beginning to appear or still have an irregular presence.

“Work on a cross-border scale will allow us to achieve better, more comprehensive results with a greater impact on the future of the Iberian wolf and lynx, two key species”, highlighted the project’s coordinating entity, in the same note.

Increasing the abundance of wild prey and habitat restoration are two of the measures to be implemented at an ecological level, as well as promoting peaceful coexistence with local human communities, and increasing tools for preventing attacks on livestock, to avoid potential conflicts.
