In a statement, the Ministry of Health states that, after making payments at the end of 2023 in an amount exceeding 1.2 billion euros, “the value of the total debt reduced to 1.087 billion euros, the lowest value recorded in the last decade”.

The outstanding debt, he adds, stood at 443 million euros, which represents a reduction of around half the value recorded in 2015.

“The payments made contribute, in a decisive way, to an effective and efficient management of resources allocated to the public health service, ensuring better conditions of liquidity, management and budgetary responsibility for SNS institutions”, highlights the statement.

The Ministry of Health also states that the State Budget for 2024 foresees tax revenue for the SNS of around 13.5 billion euros, one billion more compared to the previous year and 72% more compared to 2015.
