According to the captain of the port of Portimão and local commander of the Maritime Police, Eduardo Pousadas Godinho, after an initial assessment by the Maritime Authority, “the Judicial Police was called”.

According to the source, “there were no victims, only material damage, and it is up to the PJ to determine the causes of the fire.”

The fire may have started in the kitchen area of the establishment, which was closed and is one of two restaurants located on the beach of Praia do Vau, in the district of Faro.

A source from the Algarve Sub-Regional Command told Lusa that the alert for the fire was given at 6:15 am.

Several firefighters from Portimão, Lagoa and Monchique, PSP, Maritime Authority and Municipal Civil Protection Service were involved in the operations.
