Leiria’s Municipal Water and Sanitation Services (SMAS) plans to invest €7.4 million in water management, with €2.6 million towards sanitation.

Ricardo Santos, responsible for SMAS, explained the sanitation works will allow the network coverage rate to increase, which is currently 92 percent. With the completion of the sanitation works, the aim is to reach a coverage of 95 percent.

The problem in Portugal is that no water is collected. When it rains, all the water simply runs into the sea. No rainwater wells anywhere.....

Indeed, why isn’t the use of rainwater promoted in Portugal? It could help every household a lot in summertime.

I have many friends both expat and Portuguese who save rainwater in 1000lts tanks,this helps during hot weather with gardens,animals and pool top ups,I have 2 thousand ltrs of exterior water saved during the winter months.
