The police gathering, which takes place from 5:30 pm, is organised by the platform that brings together PSP unions and GNR associations, which for the first time will carry out a protest action at the doors of the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI).

Members of the PSP and GNR have been protesting for more than a month to demand a supplement identical to that given to the PJ and today's concentration takes place after the platform organised demonstrations in Lisbon and Porto, which brought together thousands of members of the security forces and which were considered the largest ever, and vigils at the airports of Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Ponta Delgada and Funchal, in addition to the seaport of Lisbon.

The platform's spokesperson, Bruno Pereira, told Lusa that they chose Praça do Comércio for another protest action, taking into account that this is where MAI is located, and anticipates “a large turnout” for the concentration.

The platform considers that it is important to keep the police struggle on the agenda so that the next Government takes a position regarding the payment of the mission supplement, similar to what was done for the PJ.

The platform, which brings together seven Public Security Police unions and four associations of the Republican National Guard (GNR), has also scheduled, for March 2nd, a national meeting of PSP police officers and GNR military personnel.
