“The process is ongoing, representing an investment of around €400 thousand for surveillance cameras in the Baixa de Coimbra, but the process as a whole is bureaucratically slow”, stated José Manuel Silva.

“Regarding the climate of insecurity in the Baixa de Coimbra, it is exaggerated”, he noted.

Councillor Regina Bento had requested the Chamber for intervention through the Municipal Police, which José Manuel Silva ignored as they did not have “security or investigation skills”.

“Security issues concern the security forces, which in the municipality are the PSP and the GNR, who depend on the Government, and which have insufficient personnel”, stressed the president of the Chamber.
