In a statement, the Trás-os-Montes municipality indicates that “following the snowfall, since early in the morning, the Municipal Civil Protection Service previously outlined an operations plan with a view to minimising the constraints resulting from adverse conditions, in order to allow the movement of people and vehicles, as safely as possible”.

The intervention operation began during the early hours of the morning, allocating resources to minimise the effects of snow and ice in the municipality with two snow plow vehicles, two salt spreaders, four support vehicles and 20 municipal employees, in conjunction with firefighters, GNR and Sub-regional command of the Lands of Trás-os-Montes.

“The Snow and Ice Intervention Plan (PING) is being complied with, ensuring the unblocking of roads in rural areas, as there were no constraints in the urban area, however, preventive driving and circulation are necessary, both in rural areas, public transport is circulating in a conditioned manner, with the exception of areas of the municipality such as Serapicos, Rebordãos, Alimonde, Terroso and Rio de Onor, where, for now, they are circulating normally”.

The same note states that educational establishments are operating and that forecasts point to a worsening of weather conditions from the afternoon onwards.

Considering that "it is not possible to guarantee the immediate resolution of difficulties caused by adverse weather conditions and given the large size of the municipality", the municipality requests the collaboration of citizens in complying with the rules and general and specific civil protection guidelines”.

The municipality also calls for each person to contribute to cleaning and unblocking access to homes.

Six districts of mainland Portugal are under an orange warning due to snowfall at least until 12 pm today, while rain, strong winds and sea disturbances will affect the Center and North, until Sunday 10 March.
